Janus Chemnitz Kleist is a Greenlandic public sector professional and Arctic specialist based in Nuuk. He currently works as an IT coordinator for the Government of Greenland within the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Church. With a background in public administration and tourism, he has spent much of his career supporting governmental, cultural and research institutions across Greenland. 

In addition to his work in government, Kleist has contributed to Arctic research networks and international cooperation initiatives. Earlier in his career he worked with the International Arctic Social Sciences Association (IASSA), helping support collaboration among researchers and institutions studying Arctic societies and cultures. 

Kleist has also worked within the polar expedition tourism sector. Over four summer seasons, he served as a member of the expedition team aboard MS Fram, traveling extensively along Greenland’s coastline and sharing his local knowledge and expertise with international visitors. 

Alongside his professional work, Kleist has written articles and contributed editorially to the Greenlandic publication Neriusaaq. His career reflects a long-standing interest in Greenlandic society, governance, culture and Arctic collaboration.
